Website accessibility checker
Enter a web page address. Google Lighthouse loads the page in a real browser and runs its automated accessibility checks. You'll see a score, every failing check with the WCAG criterion it affects, and how to fix it.

CodeInspire Accessibility Tool runs the same checks on your home, product, collection and cart pages from your Shopify admin, and turns each failing check into fix steps for your Shopify admin, theme editor or theme code.
What does the checker test?
It runs the accessibility audit from Google Lighthouse, the same one you'll find in PageSpeed Insights and in Chrome DevTools. Lighthouse uses the open-source axe-core engine to test things like:
- images without alt text, and links or buttons without a name screen readers can announce;
- text that doesn't have enough contrast with its background;
- form fields without labels;
- a missing page title or page language, and zoom turned off on phones;
- headings out of order, and ARIA attributes that are invalid or misused.
Each failing check links to the WCAG success criterion it affects. If you're asking about the ADA: the Justice Department's 2024 rule for state and local government websitesuses WCAG 2.1 Level AA as its technical standard. This page is general information, not legal advice.
How do I read the score?
The score is a weighted average of the automated checks, from 0 to 100. Lighthouse weighs each check by its likely impact on people, so the issues are listed with the points fixing each one adds, biggest first.
- 90 to 100: Good (shown with a circle).
- 50 to 89: Needs work (a square).
- 0 to 49: Poor (a triangle).
A score of 100 means every automated check passed. It doesn't mean the page is accessible: that needs the checks you can only do by hand.
What can't an automated check find?
- Whether alt text actually describes the image, or whether link text makes sense out of context.
- Whether everything works with a keyboard: a visible focus, a sensible order, no traps. Our keyboard testing guide shows how to check.
- Menus, pop-ups, cart drawers, error messages and other content that only appears after you interact.
- Text over images and videos, where contrast changes across the picture. Check those colors with the contrast checker.
- Whether captions are accurate, and whether animation can be paused.
That's why your results end with a list of checks to do by hand. An accessibility widget can't do them for you either: read what accessibility widgets can and can't do.

Frequently asked questions
Is this an ADA audit?
It's a first pass, not a full audit. The ADA doesn't set a technical standard for most private websites, but the Justice Department's 2024 rule for state and local government websites uses WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and most accessibility audits measure against WCAG. This checker runs automated WCAG checks on one page. A full audit adds testing by hand, with a keyboard and screen readers, across your key pages. This isn't legal advice.
Does a score of 100 mean my page is accessible?
No. It means every automated check passed on that page when it was checked. Automated checks can't tell whether alt text describes the image, whether everything works with a keyboard, or whether the page makes sense with a screen reader. Work through the checks to do by hand in your results too.
Is my result private?
The address you enter is sent to Google PageSpeed Insights, which loads the page to run the checks, so only check public pages. Our server keeps the result for up to an hour so a repeat check is quick. We don't ask for your name or email.
Why is my score different from PageSpeed Insights or Chrome?
Each check loads the page fresh, so pop-ups, ads, experiments and changing content can change the result, and mobile and desktop layouts can differ. Results here are kept for up to an hour, and Lighthouse itself is updated from time to time.
Can it check my whole site?
It checks one page at a time, and only pages anyone can open: not pages behind a password, a login or bot protection. Check one page of each type, such as your home page, a product or article page, a listing page and a page with a form.
